Grenada Sight: Seven Sisters Waterfall

The pools at the Seven Sisters falls are the perfect place to beat the heat, or just relax with some friends on a picnic. The water is nice and cool….(this is a polite way of saying that it is 'COLD'!!)
However, after hiking to the falls, this just makes it very refreshing. The falls are fun to swim under, and you get a good workout just getting there against the current. The main falls are nice and tall, and because it comes from a narrow cleft in the rocks, the stream does not spread out as it falls. This means that it plunges quite heavily into the pool at its base and you can hear the cascade a lot sooner than you can see it.
This pool is larger and deeper than the second one that the water cascades into.
Not many people realize that there are lots of small fish living in the
stream, and if you happen to have some cookies, or bread, you would be
surprised at the amount of them that will show up for a free meal.
There are actually seven falls and cascades, but the biggest of them is the
most popular, and that is the one which we hiked to recently.
We had not been there for a couple of months, and were surprised at some of
the changes.
One, which most people would appreciate, is that the trail is now much
better. It is well marked, with steps cut into the trail to make the going
easier.
Quite frankly, we thought it made it a little too easy, but i suspect that
we would be in the minority.
The walk down to the falls took us only about 15 minutes, but may take you a
little longer, especially if you stop to enjoy the views at the beginning.
The first section passes trough a private plantation, and there is an
entrance fee of EC$5. There is ample parking available, and the owners
maintain the trail to the falls. The trail down the hillside can be a little muddy sometimes, especially if it rains, so a good pair of shoes is advisable (no flip-flops!) The trees have re-grown considerably since hurricane Ivan 6 years ago, and they provide ample shade on the way down. Once we reached the bottom of the trail, the trail forked and the path to the main falls lead over another stream. The left hand path takes you to the main falls, and the other trail goes to the Honeymoon Falls, a nice hidden gem about another 15 minutes hike along the trail.
The pools at the falls are wonderful for swimming in and you will definitely enjoy it after getting hot and sweaty on the trail down, which we did. After soaking a while, we started on the trail back, which took at least twice as long…. don't know where that hill came from, but it made me wish that there was a pool at the top to take another dip in…
