Return to Gouyave Fish Friday....Posted by: Neil in Grenada Blog on Apr 17, 2009 |

Yesterday we went to the Fish Friday in Gouyave.
We had not gone there in a couple of months, so were expecting that it had changed somewhat. Thankfully, it was just as good.
The food was still great, with a wide variety to choose from. The people are all quite friendly and pleasant to deal with and there is a well organised police presence, although they only have to help organise the parking and traffic.
We got there a little early, so it was not crowded and we had our choice of whatever we wanted.
We did not expect to see a lot of tourists there, but were a little surprised when the crowd started arriving and the majority of them were visitors. (If you like lobster or crabback, then I would suggest you get there early, as they tend to sell out quite quickly.)
Met some friends there as well, as Grenadians tend to show up a little later (why rush on a friday night?)
Of course, we managed to get some of our favourite foods, like crabback (EC$15), shrimp stir fry (EC$12), fish cake (EC$1.50) and fish pockets (EC$4).

Best advice is to get there early and hungry. Don't go for the big stuff immediately, but wonder around and sample as much as you can. You will be surprised how quickly you can feel stuffed. Luckily, there is ample seating and you can relax and let the first course settle before tackling that lobster you had your eye on when you came in ;-)

If you get the chance, we highly recommend you visit the Fish Fryday in Gouyave. You can get there with one of the tour companies, such as Sunsation Tours, which runs regular trips, or with one of the tour guides, like Sunsation Tour, Mandoo or Chris.

My husband and I will be there the first Friday in July and plan to go to Gouyave. Will lobster be out of season?
LOBSTER TREAT
Just back in UK. Fond memories of two Fish Fridays. First Friday - Had the lobster with Tamarind sauce. Very juicy but a little tough. (Probably because I am greedy and chose the biggest one) And at $65 a bit expensive. Nevertheless I enjoyed it. Second Friday wanted shrimps (or prawns as I know them). But $12 for 6. So I went for the $12 shrimp stir fry instead. It contained 7 shrimps. Got a good deal there
