One of the nicest little getaways here on the island, and a place we would recommend to have a great meal, is Almost Paradise.
Its at the top of our list of things to do, places to visit, while in Grenada.
With only 8 cottages, this small cottage hotel is within easy walking distance of several secluded beaches, its perfect for anyone who would just like to relax and recharge.
Getting there takes about an hour and a half of driving along the west coast, via Concord Falls, and the towns of Gouyave and Victoria.
Almost Paradise is situated in a fairly secluded area in the North of the island, with great views of the islands to the north of Grenada. There is little or no traffic, and the only noise is the sound of the surf crashing on the rocks and the wind in the trees. The restaurant is situated at the top of the property, and you have a nice constant breeze and fantastic views to compliment your meal.
We had heard wonderful comments about the food there, so decided to give it a try. Made sure to make reservations in advance, as the restaurant is small and only open a few days a week.
The owners, Kate and Uwe, use as much locally grown fruit and vegetables in the preparation, and the menu changes with availability. They have loads of experiences with setting up and running their business, and are fun to listen to. It gives you a new perspective on how things are done here the 'Grenadian' way.
You are guaranteed a wonderful experience, as we found out for ourselves.
Deciding what to have was difficult, as it all sounded great, but we eventually settled on the Gazpacho, creamy scallop soup and tuna cakes for starters - (sometimes, its a little hard to choose, so best to try more than one ;-)
For the main course, we had the Garlic Herb Fish and Coconut Chicken, and to finish off, i enjoyed the Banana Almond Ice cream with the chiffon cake, and Monja had the Rum cake and cappuccino, followed with a nice shot of home made Sea Grape Liqueur.
We were a little skeptical when Kate said she had made it herself, but were pleasantly surprised by the taste, especially of the Sea Grape liqueur, It made a nice end to a wonderful meal.
All the jams, jellies, spreads and liqueurs used, are home made, and that makes a tasteful difference. It was tempting to have another dessert, but regrettably, i could not fit it in ;-(
Delicious? Absolutely! It should definitely be on your top 10 places to
visit while in the Spice Isle.
