If you would like somewhere to go to get away from the crowds and just relax
and enjoy a refreshing soak in a river, then we would suggest you try the
one in Victoria, near the old Tufton Hall estate. We recently went there, and can highly recommend it.
There are some wonderful trails in the area which you can hike and explore, and as they follow the river, you can always stop off and take a dip in one of the many pools there. Surprisingly, the water is cool and refreshing, not as cold as you would expect. Perfect for just floating around and beating the heat. The trails take you all along the valley, most of them following the river. It's a great place for hikers, but even if you are not very energetic and would just like to sit in a pool and cool off, then you will still enjoy this spot.
Sections of this old plantation are still under cultivation, and a little care and attention should be exercised when passing by any cultivated areas. Near the area where the road joins the river, there is a nicely maintained picnic area, with benches and parking. Also, the largest pool is nearby, and it is where most people like to stop off.
The biggest pool is just deep enough for paddling around, and the stream is not too strong for kids.
However, if you stroll upstream, you will find several others which are just as good, if not quite as large.
This is a place which few visitors see, but which is well known to the locals in Victoria.
Take the road to the town of Victoria.
Once you enter the town, you can just ask anyone for directions, or take the paved road towards the hills, away from the coast, keeping to the turnoffs on the right. There are a few small signs pointing the way to Tufton Falls, and these you follow.
Once you run out of road, you take the unpaved track on the left, just past the ruins and follow this to the main parking and picnic area, about 5 minutes drive away.
Definitely worth the effort to get there, and one of those places just off the beaten path which you don't normally hear about.
